Wednesday, October 1st, come join us to help celebrate the life and spirit of Mr. Shawn P. Funk at the Spearfish Chophouse & Whiskey Bar with a sweet lineup of music, featuring The MadHats, Noise Tractor, Brandon Sprague, Corduroy Vinyl, and Tommy the Silent. Doors will open at 8pm, music will roll from 8:30pm until close. There will be a $10 donation at the door, Funk stickers, various Funk Pottery and Violent Hippie swag will also be available for purchase. All funds raised will go to The Shawn P. Funk Art Foundation.

“Although details will not be worked out for some time, the family of the late Black Hills artist, Shawn Funk, plans to establish a children’s art instruction workshop in his memory. Funds are also being raised to finish the exterior remodeling on the former Masonic Temple building in Newell [which Shawn owned, inhabited, and threw pottery in,] and build some new cabins across the street for the workshop attendees to stay.”

A series of different fundraisers throughout this coming fall will include art auctions, another concert, and talks of an Ice-Bowl disc golf tournament. The highly anticipated Solstice Shakedown goes off this weekend at the world-famous Buffalo Chip Campground outside of Sturgis, featuring two days of amazing national, regional, and local music and green-thinking awareness. Progressive bluegrass from the likes of Fargo’s Johnson Family Band, Wyoming’s Jalan Crossland Band, stomp-grass blues from Ben Suchy, zydeco swamp-funk from New Orleans, the mythical legend, Papa Mali, fusion showcases from Solution and Gypsyfoot, the one-man looping vocal oddity, Heatbox, Duluth indie-rockers, Batteries, and Alive Records blues-punks, Black Diamond Heavies.
