Spring installment fundraiser for the Shawn P Funk Art Foundation with a great lineup of homegrown music to be announced.

Help us to continue raising funds for the foundation to realise Shawn’s dreams of creating free art and music programs for kids, and to convert his Masonic Temple in Newell, SD into a full-blown arts education facility.

We have a long way to go and need your support!

We’re also taking pre-orders for Shawn’s solo album.

Wednesday, October 1st, come join us to help celebrate the life and spirit of Mr. Shawn P. Funk at the Spearfish Chophouse & Whiskey Bar with a sweet lineup of music, featuring The MadHats, Noise Tractor, Brandon Sprague, Corduroy Vinyl, and Tommy the Silent. Doors will open at 8pm, music will roll from 8:30pm until close. There will be a $10 donation at the door, Funk stickers, various Funk Pottery and Violent Hippie swag will also be available for purchase. All funds raised will go to The Shawn P. Funk Art Foundation.

from the September 24th issue of the Lawrence County Journal:

“Although details will not be worked out for some time, the family of the late Black Hills artist, Shawn Funk, plans to establish a children’s art instruction workshop in his memory. Funds are also being raised to finish the exterior remodeling on the former Masonic Temple building in Newell [which Shawn owned, inhabited, and threw pottery in,] and build some new cabins across the street for the workshop attendees to stay.”

A series of different fundraisers throughout this coming fall will include art auctions, another concert, and talks of an Ice-Bowl disc golf tournament. Check in for updates and listings as the events are posted and detailed. Thank you again, Black Hills, for your compassionate outpouring and continual support. See you at the Chop!

The Funk family, Agent Cooper, Chris Cady, Tommy the Silent, and Violent Hippie would like to thank the entire Black Hills community for their outpouring of support, thoughts, prayers, and beautiful words in the name of Shawn Funk: teacher, artist, musician, comedian, and beloved friend to many. A memorial concert is planned in his benefit for Wednesday, October 1st at the Spearfish Chophouse & Whiskey Bar. Watch for details as they will develop this week. We love you, Shawn! The imprint which you have left on all of our lives will never leave us. We have been blessed by you…
